Monstera deliciosa Kokedama is a beautiful handcrafted amalgamation of nature with art made using Eco-Friendly materials. These Kokedamas comes with solid wooden base and ready to be placed on the desks or tabletops, as well as coffee tables and side tables in any corner of the house. Monsteras are famous for their natural leaf-holes, and has gave it a nickname, Swiss Cheese Plant. Two different species of Monstera are cultivated as houseplants – Monstera deliciosa and Monstera adansonii. Monstera adansonii is distinguished from M. deliciosa by having longer, tapering leaves, as well as having completely enclosed leaf holes. Monstera deliciosa leaf holes eventually grow towards the edge and open up as they mature. The Monstera Swiss Cheese Vine is a perfect trailing plant, or a beautiful choice for a plant that will spill from a kokedama. This plant is a tropical variety which means that it will enjoy a more humid warm part of the home such as a kitchen, or bright bathroom. The name comes from the Latin word for “abnormal”, which refers to the leaves with their odd holes .

Caring for your Kokedama

The amount of light, water and temperature depends on the variety of the plants. It also depends upon the weather and climate conditions of a place.

Water - To water the Kokedama, simply place it plant side up onto a bucket or sink half-filled with room temperature water. The ball of the Kokedama must be 3/4th soaked into the water to allow the water to get right to the roots. Soaking duration should be for 5-10 minutes or until saturated depending on the size of the plant. It should not be left sitting in the water for long time. Drain the Kokedama before placing on the stand and we are good to go.

Frequency- As a thumb rule, Kokedamas can be soaked in once every week. However, it also depends upon the kind of the plant and the season. Some plants such as cactus and succulents need to be fully dry before being soaked back into water. The best way is to check the dampness of the moss and feel the Kokedama. If it feels light, the Kokedama can be soaked into water. Misting would be required regularly if it is kept in air conditioner or heaters.

Fertilizer- Some Kokes will benefit from liquid fertilizer added to the water. The fertilizer requirement is mentioned at the back as per the plant.

Plants do outgrow Kokedama - Every plant eventually outgrows its pot. Initially, the plant can be trimmed, however if roots start growing through the moss, it is a clear indication to repot. You can simply plant the ball, twine and all into ground.
